Kenneth "Ken" Harder

February 20, 1940 — May 23, 2021

   Kenneth R. “Ken” Harder, 81, of Sioux City, IA passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at his residence.

   Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Sioux City with Rev. Trevor Freudenburg officiating.  Burial will be at Silver Ridge Cemetery, Ponca, NE.  Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with the family greeting friends from 6 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m.  Both the prayer service and funeral service will be livestreamed at www.calvaryleeds.com.

   Kenneth Robert, the son of Albert and Laura (Baker) Harder, was born February 20, 1940 in Ponca.  Ken grew up in Ponca and graduated from Ponca High School in 1957.  Following high school, he moved to Onawa, IA for a short time.

   While living in Onawa, Ken met his future wife, Reva Cogdill, and they were united in marriage on March 19, 1960 at Hope Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, NE.  This union was blessed with two children and the family made their home in Sioux City.  Ken worked as a grocery store manager for Sunshine Foods which later became SuperValu for 34 years until his retirement. 

   Ken was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church.  In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and camping.  In later years, Ken enjoyed playing Bingo and going to auctions and rummage sales.  Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

   Ken is survived by his two children: Christine (Heath) Angerman of Sioux City and Brian (Julie) Harder of Sioux City; grandchildren: Tiffany Gagnon, Bonnie (Andy) Gagnon, Christopher Gagnon, Frederick (Amber) Gagnon, Lori (fiancé Brandon) Harder, Kevin (fiancé Manda) Foutch, Kailey (fiancé Kenny) Bryant, and Frederick Harder; great grandchildren: Ayden, Alyk, Niya , Thyan, Teagan, Gabriel, Alexandria, Linkin, Kissty, Logan, Lathan, Lilly, Dayton, Adrian, Rayden, Rayne, RayLynn, Abby, and Grayson; sister, Donna Skiles of Peoria, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

   He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert (Laura); his wife, Reva; a great granddaughter, Taylen Wessendorf; a brother, Martin (Nina) Harder; a sister, Nadine (Edward) Zellers; and a brother-in-law, Larry Skiles.
