Mary L. Peterson, died on July 16, 2021, one day after her 85th birthday. She was a resident of Mapleton and Sioux City, Iowa, but had spent the last 9 years in the loving care of her daughter, Terri and husband, Phil Shatter, in Sunnyvale, Texas.

Mary was born July 15, 1936, in Mapleton, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Garnet Braden. Garnet Braden, died in a car accident when Mary was only 10, and Mary was then raised by her grandparents, Alvin and Ethel O’Connor. She was a graduate of Mapleton High School, and married Raymond Kurth of Mapleton, and had four children from that marriage. They moved to the Sioux City, Iowa, area, where Mary worked for the Toy National Bank/Wells Fargo for over 35 years. She was remarried to Harry Duane Peterson on February 14, 1983, and they were married for 29 years until Duane passed on May 21, 2012.

She is survived by her sister Jean Bryant and brother George Braden, her 4 children: Chuck (Conchita) Kurth, Ron (Jackie) Kurth, Terri (Phil) Shatter and Mark Kurth; 2 stepdaughters Barb McClure and Laurie Amick; 16 grandchildren Christian Kurth, Max Kurth, Colton Kurth, Carlee Kurth, Felicia Kurth, Schylar Kurth, Zachary Kurth, Melissa Jones, Eric Stone, Renee Hemmer, Jake Peterson, Rachel McClure, Matthew McClure, Zack Amick, Lexi Woolridge, Kristin Amick, and 9 great grandkids.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Harry Duane Peterson, her parents, and 2 stepdaughters Debra Stone and Connie Peterson.

Mary was known for her quick wit and loving personality, as well as her outstanding card playing capabilities. We all fondly remember the family reunion we enjoyed in Texas on her 80th birthday, and California on her 83rd birthday.
